Our pinot blanc is sourced from Red Hill Vineyard which at 1300’ is the highest elevation vineyard in the Umpqua Valley. This fruit is always very rich in acid which led to the decision to barrel ferment this wine. We use all older barrels for the fermentation and aging. The idea is to get the contributions of extended lees contact without oak toast. We stir the lees which develops a creamy, yeasty complexity and contributes to a rich mouthfeel. We age the wine in barrel for one year. The wine has aromas of green apples and pineapples with toast and lemon zest. The flavors have quince and wild sage with a crème brulee texture and a tangy, cleansing acid finish. This wine would serve very well with seared scallops and pan reduced wine a butter sauce.
